Pacific Cruise
April 19-26, 2009
The
Royal Caribbean’s beautiful Mariner of the Seas,
was enjoyed by 30 adventurous and fun loving Ski Club
members. What a great week!
We
boarded, did our life boat drill, and set out to check
out the ship. There was such excitement as we set sail,
the promenade was full of music and dancing, streamers
when someone, I’ll not mention a name, was having so
much fun that they spilled beer down my head and my
top. The fun had begun. Dinner was a time to all come
together and visit about the adventures of “getting
there” and what we were going to do in the different
ports. The first of many funny statements on the trip
was “is it the same time all over the ship? When Neal
said yes, it was the same on the front and the back of
the ship, it was asked, so every stateroom is the same
time? Changing time zones is so confusing!!
After the first day of relaxing by the pool, working on
our tans, and cheering Ray in the “sexy legs contest”,
we were ready for our first port: Cabo San Lucas. What
an awesome place this is, totally living up to its
“party town” reputation. Our group did everything from
para sailing to hanging out and listening to live music
at CABO WABO, owned by Sammy Haggard who plays with Van
Halen. We met for a late lunch at the famous “Office”
on the beach for Margaritas and lunch! It was during
this time the statement was made “I’ve never been so
drink on two drunks”! Also, “I pinched my face and it
was numb”. (We laughed about these the rest of the
trip.) Neal was nicknamed the “margarita police” while
trying to keep control. It didn’t work!!! The rest of
the day was spent enjoying the ocean, beach and town.
The sea lyons and hugh rock formations were awesome as
was “Lover’s beach” where the ocean tried to claim
Sheila’s purse, but was rescued by hero Ben.
The
next day we were off to Mazatlan for another great day.
The weather was perfect and the groups were headed in
all directions. A thrill in Mazatlan was watching the
cliff divers calculate the waves and depth for such a
daring dive, only clearing by a couple of feet, and with
perfect form as well. The beautiful Cathedral in Old
Mazatlan was a treat, so old and beautiful. Deer Island
was the choice for many and shopping the golden zone and
enjoying good sea food was enjoyed by many. Shows,
dinner, more shows and dancing were the nightly routine
and everyone took full advantage of the fun.
I
was so excited about our third port. It was in Puerto
Vallarta that several of us were signed up for the zip
line canopy tour 100 ft. over the jungle and river.
Since it had not rained since October, the river was
dry, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the
group. It was pretty funny watching the guides trying to
find a helmet big enough for one in our group, guess
who. At last, he was outfitted and off we all went to
zip through the trees, like Tarzan, 100’ in the air and
at the end, could only get down by repelling from 75’
straight down. It was AWESOME!! We ended up with great
pictures from the staff photographer of this fun
adventure. PRICELESS!
Our
sea days were a little cool, but definitely warmed up
with the hospitality of J.D. and Max along with their
tasty lemonade and hors d’oeuvres, especially the squash
and carrots. By the way, who was the handsome guy in
the shower cap?
Thanks for the memories, Patti
